Northsiders 1 : 1 Wild Geese

John Goodwin and Dave O'Donoghue star in win over DNS

Arnaud Benech excels against Northsiders

Brian Clarke scored with the last kick of the game to earn the Geese a hard-fought draw. Constant rainfall had created a greasy pitch which curtailed accurate passing and fluid movement. Both teams made high numbers of self-enforced errors. The Geese in particular found it difficult to manufacture many straight forward chances.

The Northsiders opened the scoring - it was again their excellent movement through the centre which setup the chance. Other than this goal, the first half was quite tight. The Geese seen the return, after long lay-offs, of Gerard Tormey and Francis Naughton. Though rusty, they both impressed. But most impressive for the Geese was their defence, who have now gelled into a formidable foursome .Fullbacks Fleming and Benech defended well, but also made some excellent breaks. Murray and Saul seem much more commanding than a Terry/Dawson partnership. This season Geese haven't yet been able to settle on any keeper - but Paul Kavanagh last night made several super saves.

They worked hard, but the Geese just couldnt get that equaliser. It was left to the Tevez-like qualities of Brian Clarke, who latched onto an accurate ball from midfield, and beat his marker and cooly slot home. The final whistle blew and the Geese had salvaged a draw.
