Wild Geese perform bravely at Triathlone 2010
The Wild Geese performed bravely at the Triathlone 2010 event in Athlone, on July 3rd 2010. The Geese entered as a team, cheered and supported each other as a team, and they all finished the event. Here is a short report of how the Geese's ten heroes performed.
Best Wild Geese Swimmer - Malcolm Lane
Strong performance from Malcolm Lane, who only a month a go truly started his recovery from injury. The 750 swim required a lot of stamina - especially when a delay meant that the swimmers endured an additional five minutes of threading water.
Best Wild Geese Transition 1 - Andrew Fleming
Andrew was superfast out of the transition area after the swim. He also greatly improved his performance from last year in both the cycling and running.
Best Wild Geese Cyclist - Fergus Fahey
Fergus greatly improved his own personal time from last year (a whopping 7.5 minutes) and his ranking in the sprint triathlon is commendable. The cycle from Fergus, just like the swim last year by Andy Harrison, was the most outstanding achievement by any of the Geese in Triathlone 2010.
Best Wild Geese Transition 2 - Andy Fleming
The Fleming's just don't hang about! While others were limping, Andy Fleming bolted out of the second transition period. Andy was also the fastest overall Geese athlete in the Age-Group event.
Best Wild Geese Runner - Oliver Tormey
On a tougher course than last year, Oliver managed to be the best runner again this year.
Martin Tormey - Triathlon debut
Martin Tormey made his debut - his notable achievement was to improve his 20km cycling record by eight minutes - suggests we will see much more from him in the cycling domain
David Long - Triathlon debut
David's best event was the swim - which suggests he would have no problem in any of the longer events.
David O'Donoghue - Triathlon debut
Photo is of David, and his friend Thomas Byrne - David surprised himself with a very strong swim (the fastest among the Age Group Geese athletes). David also raised over 1200 euros for Bernados - http://www.barnardos.ie/
Kevin Doherty - Triathlon debut
Kevin did well on his Tri debut, with a solid swim, cycles, and runs - he has the capacity to be a strong all-round triathlete
Lenny McCarthy - improved all-round performance
Lenny McCarthy also improved his performance - especially notable was his swim where he beat many much more experienced swimmers.
